Safety Locking Mechanism Vs Friction Fit

Industrial cleaning using Spacevac ATEX cleaning system-2

One of the most important safety features that are built in to the SpaceVac system as standard is our unique safety locking mechanism.

It’s only a small detail but one that is crucial to the safety of operators and also enables the system to be more flexible than others out there on the market.

As you may already be aware this mechanism is in use across all of SpaceVac’s cleaning poles, heads and brushes across all of our lines and it provides a number of key advantages for users over a friction fit system (where poles simply push together at each end)… You can see this in action in the video below:

  1. Firstly and most importantly by locking each component of the system firmly in place, operators can be sure that the system will not separate during use and leave equipment either stranded at height or worse – falling on users below.
  2. The mechanism also ensures that all of the elements of the system – the cleaning heads, tools etc – do not twist and rotate during operation. This means that operators can manoeuvre and manipulate the system as they need to without the brushes turning around.
  3. Thirdly, the mechanism really comes into its own when it comes time to pack the system away. One of the common complaints with friction fit poles is that when they get dirty inside during use, they can become stuck and refuse to come apart – we’ve even seen poles in the past where users have had to hacksaw them apart to separate them. With our simple mechanism however, the elements all come apart at the push of a button.
  4. The other key advantage that this provides to users however, is the ability to be able to clean horizontally and vertically down without the system separating and coming apart as well. With a friction fit system, the combination of gravity, the weight of the poles and the motion of cleaning would prevent users from being able to clean in any direction other than up, the safety locking mechanism however means the system can be used in any direction with ease and peace of mind.

You can see an example of this in practise in this video below – here we put our ATEX system to work in a bakery facility and were required to work horizontally in order to clear out the crumbs and cast off from inside this huge industrial oven:
