The new university campus in Northampton features a number of large open areas and concourses with lighting systems and cable trays all accumulating dust well above head height. In addition to creating visual issues onsite, this unattended dust can also have a very clear effect on outcomes – with documented issues including absenteeism impacting on academic outputs and the increased costs of covering relief staff due to staff illness.
In education the issue of dust and indoor air quality is more than just a visual problem - the real world effects on education of absenteeism down to respiratory related issues are well documented.
